St. John’s College is pleased to present baritone David Farwig and pianist Kevin Kennedy in a program of vocal works by Stefano Donaudy, Robert Schumann, Ralph Vaughn Williams, Henri Duparc, Carlos Gardel, and Bob Merrill.
David Farwig has been hailed as a lyric baritone with a unique and beautiful sound, unsurpassed clarity, flexibility, and deep expressivity. Bringing a full range of styles to the stage, Farwig has performed with various professional companies throughout the United States, including, in New Mexico, the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, the Santa Fe Symphony, Santa Fe Pro Musica, and the Albuquerque Baroque Players.
In 2003, Farwig was awarded the “Virginia Best Adams Fellowship” at the Carmel Bach Festival in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, a nationally auditioned program that recognizes emerging professional soloists of Baroque literature. His concert highlights span the music of Bach, Handel, Telemann, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Faure, Rossini, Vaughan Williams, and Finzi. He also has also performed a wide variety of art song literature in various solo recitals, including works by Schubert, Schumann, Wolf, Richard Strauss, Fauré, Duparc, and Granados. Farwig currently is working on a solo recording project of early Italian and Spanish songs and their influence on the development of the Argentine tango, several of which will be sung in tonight’s program.
Kevin Kennedy has been a professional coach and accompanist in the Denver area for many years. He is currently a voice teacher at Red Rocks Community College and organist at Park Hill United Methodist Church in Denver. He has worked for Central City Opera, Opera Colorado, and the Colorado Symphony, and he was music director/conductor of the Colorado Ballet in 1992-1993. For more than 25 years, Kennedy was music director/organist at Holy Ghost Catholic Church and held the same position at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception from 1996 to 1997. He maintains a private studio where he teaches voice and coaches singers, some with international careers.
