The King William Players Present Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night"

St. John’s College theater troupe, the King William Players, open their production of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night, Or What You Will” on the twelfth night in December. The performances, which are free and open to the public, will be held in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium on December 11at 8:15 p.m., December 12 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., and December 13 at 6 p.m.
One of Shakespeare’s beloved plays, “Twelfth Night” is a comedy of romantic reversals. The plot centers on shipwrecked Viola who, believing that her brother Sebastian is dead, dresses as a man. She then finds work as a go-between for Lord Duke Orsino as he woos Lady Olivia. But Olivia falls for Viola, not Orsino.
“The play evolves from something hysterically funny, to poignant and touching, as you get to know the characters throughout the course of two hours,” says director Tessa Nelson, a sophomore at St. John’s. “We’re taking a more traditional approach to ‘Twelfth Night,’ but certainly not a boring one. Music is a huge theme in the show, so all of the songs are being composed specifically for this performance. The cast is incredibly talented and willing to work together, which is essential to building a production as focused on the ensemble as this one is.”
