One doesn’t need to be a handy homeowner to appreciate tools as art. Sarah Tanguy, a national authority on Hechinger’s collection and curator for “Tools in Motion: Works from the John W. Hechinger Collection,” will share her fascination with these functional objects in an upcoming lecture at the Mitchell Gallery. The exhibit “Tools in Motion” will be on view from August 26 to October 21. Tanguy’s lecture, “The Secret Lives of Tools,” will be held at the Mitchell Gallery on October 6, at 7 p.m.
Tanguy has been curating national tours of Hechinger’s collection since 1994 and served as one of the personal curators for Hechinger, whose hardware corporation was based in Landover. His company closed in 1999, and Hechinger passed away in 2004, but Tanguy remains a lively connection to Hechinger’s vision of hardware as art.
