Pamela Kraus, a long-time tutor at St. John’s, became the second woman to serve as dean of the college. As dean Ms. Kraus welcomes the greater Annapolis community to the college’s many events and programs, including lectures, concerts, and continuing education and fine arts workshops.
At St. John’s the dean works collaboratively with faculty and staff on key issues facing the college, including the curriculum, a new admissions initiative, and the impact of the recession. “We need to bring the importance of liberal arts education to public attention,” says Ms. Kraus. “The active learning here at St. John’s is distinctive. It’s not the books themselves so much as the way we read them – it can be life changing.”
Ms. Kraus is entering the first year of her five-year term as dean; she has been a member of the St. John’s faculty since 1985. She holds master and doctoral degrees from the Catholic University of America.
St. John’s also welcomes new staff members, including Anita Brown, ITS operations manager. Brown oversees the college’s technical staff and operation of the Annapolis campus IT systems and applications. Prior to joining St. John’s, Brown worked at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) and was responsible for technical resources and project management for PeopleSoft applications. Brown holds a master’s degree from UMUC.
