Lecture on Mozart at St. John's College

Stephen Lubin will give a lecture at St. John's College entitled, "Tonal Paths in a Mozart Sonata." The lecture will be held in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium on Friday, January 23, at 8:15 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Lubin's lecture will focus on nearly 300 movements of instrumental works by Mozart. Lubin says he aims "to determine the degree to which Mozart specializes his schemes according to genre, and, in multi-movement works, according to the characters and roles of individual movement-types. I will also investigate the specific ways in which Mozart's schemes increase in complexity and chromatic range in the course of his career."
Lubin has garnered praise as a distinguished American pianist. He is professor of music at the Conservatory at Purchase College of SUNY. Lubin received his bachelor's degree in philosophy from Harvard, master's degree in piano from the Juilliard School, and a doctorate in musicology from New York University.
