St. John’s King William Players Present a Machiavellian Comedy

The King William Players, St. John’s College’s student theater troupe, will perform “Mandragola,” a comedy written by Niccolo Machiavelli in 1518. Performances of “Mandragola” will be held in the Great Hall April 17 and 24, at 8 p.m. and on April 25, at 3 p.m. All performances are free and open to the public.
The production, which is directed by St. John’s sophomore Caleb Nolen, is based on the translation of “Mandragola” (1981) by St. John’s tutor Mera Flaumenhaft. “Mandragola” tells the timeless story of Callimaco, a young man who returns to Florence after a long stay in Paris and falls in love with the beautiful - but married and virtuous - Lucrezia. Callimaco enlists the help of a wicked friend, a corrupt priest, Lucrezia’s mother, and (unwittingly) Lucrezia’s husband, to woo and win her affections.
