St. John’s College welcomes the community to the exhibition, “James Earl: Drawings, Sketchbooks, and Prints,” which will be on view from April 6 to May 16 in the Lillian Vanous Nutt Room of the Greenfield Library.
For 30 years, James Earl has carried a pocket sketchbook to record scenes from his life in pencil, ink, and watercolor. Many of these drawings have been developed into prints that will be on view, along with 10 original sketchbooks.
Earl became interested in the visual arts when he saw Andy Warhol’s silk-screened “Brillo Boxes” at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1973. Subsequently, he began to make silkscreen prints, do etchings, and take drawing classes. In 1982, he received a bachelor’s degree in studio art from the University of Maryland.
