St. John’s Welcomes the Community to its Fine Arts Workshops

Registration is open for the St. John’s College Continuing Education & Fine Arts Program, which offers a rich variety of fine arts workshops, seminars, and preceptorials. These programs, scheduled on weekday evenings or weekend mornings, are held on the Annapolis campus and are open to the public. Fall classes begin September 12 and the registration deadline is two weeks before the start of each class. Tuition is $185 for fine arts workshops (some also have a materials or model fee). Each year St. John’s Continuing Education and Fine Arts programs offer lively, stimulating discussions and workshops as students of all ages, from college undergraduates to retirees, learn side-by-side. Painters, sculptors and potters, both amateur and advanced, can take their art to a new level through the creative guidance of seasoned local artists and art educators such as Jean Brinton Jaecks, Mary Arthur, and D. H Banker. Among their workshop offerings are “Figure Sculpture in Clay,” and “Painting Light.” Annapolis potter John Jensen will be teaching “Beginning and Intermediate Pottery with Raku Firing.” Writers can work closely with instructors Lynn Schwartz and Laura Oliver in classes such as “The Craft of Story-Fiction” and “The Story Within: Personal Essay.” Participants will hone their craft through readings, in-class writing, and peer critiques.
