Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert and Seminars at St. John's College

Join the St. John's College community for the second annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert, "Lift Every Voice." Confirmed for this year's concert are: Artscentric; the Asbury United Methodist-Men's Choir; Mt. Olive AME-Mass Choir; Anne Arundel Community College Chorus; the All Children's Chorus of Annapolis; the Queen Sisters; and The Pennsylvania Avenue AME Zion Mass Choir.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday, January 11, in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium. No tickets or reservations are required; however, seating is limited. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. A reception takes place immediately after the performance. For more information call 410-626-2530.
This year, members of the community are also invited to participate in seminars on Dr. King's Letter from Birmingham Jail, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 10. Arrive at 9:30 a.m. for check-in and refreshments. Tutors will lead small groups of participants in a discussion of the letter that Dr. King wrote to his fellow clergy in Birmingham in response to their condemnation of civil disobedience in the city. St. John's Treasurer Dr. Bronté Jones organized the first concert last year to offer a free, family-centered community event. More than 500 people attended the high-spirited performance last January. "While there are many events in Washington, D.C., and in Baltimore, it seemed appropriate for Annapolis to have an event that is free and open to all in our community," she said.
Free parking is available at the State parking garage at Calvert and St. John's streets.
