Explore “Life of the Mind” this Summer at St. John’s College

Join a learning community in the heart of Annapolis. Each summer the Graduate Institute of Liberal Arts at St. John’s College hosts the "Life of the Mind.” This series of thought-provoking lectures, each led by a St. John’s tutor, brings together St. John’s College and the wider community to cultivate a spirit of thoughtfulness and inquiry. The series begins on Wednesday, June 22 and continues each Wednesday evening through August 3. The lectures are held in the Great Hall of McDowell Hall at 7:30 p.m.
June 22 - “Questions about starting points in mathematical and philosophical thinking: the example of Euclid and Spinoza” by Joe Cohen
June 29 - “The Illusion of Money” by Ram Ramachandran
July 6 - “Two Ideas of Liberal Education” by Dan Harrell
July 13 - “‘What is law?’ for Aquinas and Aristotle” by Joe Macfarland
July 20 - “On Euclid’s ‘Optics’” by Michael Grenke
July 27 - “Unforgettable Rhetoric and Dramatic Structure in
Sophocles’ ‘Antigone’” by Marcel Widzisz
August 3 - “Machiavelli’s Desire” by Walter Sterling
