St. John’s tutor Dan Harrell will give a lecture at the college entitled, “Does beauty have a place in liberal education?” The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium on Friday, September 3, at 8:15 p.m.

“Does beauty have a place in liberal education? ‘No’ will be the answer of my lecture’s first part; ‘yes’, the answer of its second part; and ‘maybe’, the answer of its third and final part. All three answers point to the same problem: understanding the relation between beauty and truth,” says Mr. Harrell.

Mr. Harrell joined St. John’s as a tutor in 1998. He received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in 1989, and his doctorate in philosophy from Emory University in 1997.
