Financial Aid

Returning Students

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Returning students must submit the required documents by March 1 to be considered for need-based grants, loans, and work opportunities.  Due to limited funds, institutional grants will be reduced for late applications.
STEP 1: File the CSS Profile Application at http://profileonline.collegeboard.com/.  The codes for each campus are: Annapolis (5598) and Santa Fe (4737).

If your parents are divorced or separated, your non-custodial parent needs to complete the CSS Non-custodial Parents Statement

STEP 2: File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. The codes are: Annapolis (002092) and Santa Fe (002093).  You can file a renewal FAFSA if you have your federal PIN.  You can retrieve your PIN at this website:  http://www.pin.ed.gov/.

AS SOON AS AVAILABLE:  Send signed copies of parents’ and students’ 2009 Federal Income Tax Returns (all pages and schedules) and W-2 forms to the Financial Aid Office.

Parents who are business or farm owners must also submit copies of the appropriate business tax returns:

  • Partnerships and LLCs  – IRS Form 1065 and K-1
  • C-Corp – IRS Form 1120
  • S-Corp – IRS Form 1120S and K-1.

DEADLINES

Be sure to file the FAFSA and PROFILE before March 1.  Due to limited funds, late applicants will receive lower grants or may be placed on a waiting list for grants and on-campus employment. If your family has not completed your 2009 Federal Income Tax Return or are filing an extension, use estimated income figures to complete the forms.  Do not miss the filing deadline because your taxes are not done.  If you file the FAFSA and PROFILE after March 1, you will be subject to a reduction in your St. John’s Grant of:  $2,500 thru March 30, $3,000 during April, $3,500 during May, and $4,000 during June and after.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

Transfer Applicants: If applying for transfer between the Annapolis and Santa Fe campuses, you should list both campus codes on the FAFSA: Annapolis (002092), Santa Fe (002093).The PROFILE should be sent to the campus to which you are currently attending.  (Annapolis: 5598; Santa Fe: 4737.) The March 1 deadline applies to transfer applications.
Maryland Residents: The FAFSA must be submitted prior to March 1. Maryland has very strict deadlines, and failure to meet their deadline will result in a loss of state grant assistance.  This will not be made up with institutional grant money.

Divorced or separated parents: If parents are divorced or separated, both must submit financial information. The custodial parent should complete the FAFSA/PROFILE, while the other parent should submit a Non-Custodial Parent's Statement directly to the St. John's Financial Aid Office. If the custodial parent has remarried, the stepparent must be included on the FAFSA/PROFILE.

POLICY REGARDING THE INTEGRITY OF INFORMATION

Due to early deadlines, awards may be based on estimated income.  Families are required to provide the Financial Aid Office with 2009 federal tax returns as soon as they are available.  Corrections will be made to prior estimates, and this may result in a revised aid award.  If the Financial Aid Committee has reason to believe that a family has misrepresented their financial circumstances, the student may be disqualified from receiving institutional funding.

Please contact the Financial Aid Office or see our website if you have any questions about filing your aid application.
