Application Instructions

Returning students must submit the FAFSA and CSS Profile applications by March 1 to be considered for need-based grants, loans, and work opportunities. Due to limited funds, institutional grants will be reduced for late applications.

NOTE: Make sure to check your St. John’s College email often, as the primary means of communication from the Financial Aid Office are through e-mail.

Step 1 – Complete CSS Profile
File the CSS Profile Application at profileonline.collegeboard.com.The CSS code for Annapolis is 5598 and Santa Fe is 4737.

If your parents are divorced or separated, your non-custodial parent needs to complete the CSS Non-custodial Parents Statement at ncprofile.collegeboard.com.

Step 2 – Complete FAFSA
File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The federal code for Annapolis is 002092 and Santa Fe is 002093. You can file a renewal FAFSA if you have your federal PIN. You can retrieve your PIN online at www.pin.ed.gov.

Step 3 – Give supporting documentation to the Financial Aid Office
By April 1, send signed copies of parents’ and students’ 2011 Federal Income Tax Returns (all pages and schedules) and W-2 forms to the Financial Aid Office. In the case of divorced or separated parents, also send the non-custodial parents’ federal tax return and W-2. Contact the Financial Aid Office if you have any extenuating circumstances and cannot meet this deadline.
Parents who are business or farm owners must also submit copies of the appropriate business tax returns:

You will receive notifications from the Financial Aid Office with any further documentation we need.

Step 4 - Maryland State Grants
Maryland Residents: The FAFSA must be submitted prior to March 1. Maryland has very strict deadlines, and failure to meet their deadline will result in a loss of state grant assistance. This will not be made up with institutional grant money. Residents from the states of NM, PA, RI and VT should file the FAFSA by March 1st in order to be considered for a state sponsored grant.

Policy Regarding the Integrity of Information

Due to early deadlines, awards may be based on estimated income. Families are required to provide the Financial Aid Office with 2011 federal tax returns as soon as they are available. Corrections will be made to prior estimates, and this may result in a revised aid award. If the Financial Aid Committee has reason to believe that a family has misrepresented their financial circumstances, the student may be disqualified from receiving institutional funding.

Please contact the Financial Aid Office or see our website if you have any questions about filing your aid application.
