“Girls Like Us: The Promise of Having It All”

Sallie Bingham is a feminist author, poet, and playwright. She published her first novel shortly after graduating from Radcliffe College. Since then she has published four collections of short stories, three novels, three plays, and a memoir. Her two most recent plays, Treason and A Dangerous Personality, have been produced off-Broadway. Bingham has received fellowships from Yaddo, the MacDowell Colony and the Virginia Center, and is the founder of The Kentucky Foundation for Women.
Sallie Bingham’s lecture will focus on the promise of women “having it all.” Using examples from her own work and that of other authors, Bingham will illustrate the progression of this idea in literature. She will also examine why the notion of “having it all” developed in this manner.
Mary-Charlotte Domandi, Santa Fe Radio Café host, will introduce the speaker. After twenty minutes for questions and answers, a reception and book signing will follow in the Junior Common Room.
