Frequently Asked Questions

Are there limits to the number of guests who may attend graduation?
We do not officially limit seating for the event. However, if you are planning on bringing more than ten people, please let us know by e-mailing Mary Anne Burke at maburke@sjcsf.edu or by phoning her at 505-984-6109.

How long is the commencement ceremony?
The ceremony will last approximately two hours.

Do I need to r.s.v.p. for other events that weekend?
We do not require a formal response for any commencement activities.

Are there invitations for commencement?
Beginning in late March, all students who are preparing to graduate can get up to ten commencement invitations from the President's Office. If needed, a limited amount of additional invitations may be obtained from the President's Office after April 15.

May family and friends attend the President's cocktail reception on Friday on the Fishpond Placita?
Family members and friends attending commencement activities are invited to join graduates attending the reception. Following the reception, you may wish to make dinner reservations at one of Santa Fe's many local restaurants.

What is appropriate dress for commencement ceremonies?
Commencement exercises are held outside on the placita, in front of Meem Library. Because of the intensity of the sun and the high altitude, we suggest that you wear sunscreen and/or sun protection. Water will be provided. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the Gymnasium.

Is there a reception following the commencement ceremony?
A complimentary buffet lunch will be served for all attendees in the Peterson Student Center, first floor hallway.

How do I get photos of the ceremony?
Students are given a photo order form for group photos before graduation. Individual photos are taken of students as they receive their diploma and may be ordered after graduation by contacting the photographer directly, using the number on the photo order form. It takes approximately six weeks to process the commencement photos.

Where do we park?
Parking is restricted to the Visitors' Parking Lot, located at the entrance to the campus and along Camino Cruz Blanca. Handicap parking is available.

Where may we purchase College memorabilia?
You will be able to make purchases at the campus bookstore (on the first floor of Peterson Student Center) one hour before commencement and following the ceremony.
