The Mitchell Art Gallery
Travel Program to Tuscany, Italy
The next Mitchell Gallery sponsored trip is to Tuscany, departing September 23, 2012. The brochure for this trip will be mailed to you in January, but I wanted to give Mitchell Gallery members a preview, to consider as they plan travel in the coming year.
We will be based in Siena, a small medieval city with great ambiance and many treasures of its own. Our home for seven nights will be the Hotel Athena within walking distance of the Piazza del Campo. This hotel combines stylish accommodations, old-world charm, and exceptional service with 21st century amenities and facilities. And we only have to unpack once! The tour operator will be Gohagan and Company, who performed flawlessly for our inaugural trip to the Dordogne.
Siena is a UNESCO World Heritage site, so we will enjoy an architectural walking tour of the city and its most famous landmarks. In our free time we will make our own discoveries in the contrade of this exquisite place.
The itinerary includes a full-day excursion toFlorence, another UNESCO World Heritage site, where we can visit the Uffizi Gallery, the Galleria dell'Accademia, and the Duomo. Other excursions take us to San Gimignano, and to Montalcino, two other beautiful hill towns in Italy.
While immersing ourselves in the artistic and architectural wonders of the region, we will not neglect Tuscany's famous food and wine. Included on our schedule are wine tastings in Chianti, a presentation and tasting on Tuscan olive oil, and a visit to an artisan pasta maker.
Because we sold out our first Mitchell Gallery sponsored trip, we are assured by Gohagan and Company, that either Hydee Schaller or Lucinda Edinberg will accompany us on this trip. Before this trip sells out, I hope that Mitchell Gallery members will take advantage of this preview announcement to make plans now to join us in Tuscany.
The dates of this trip are September 23 through October 1, 2012. Please contact me for further information or for early bookings for la dolce vita di Toscana.
