St. John’s Search and Rescue was founded in 1971. SAR teaches lifesaving techniques that may be put to use in a real-life mission. The team offers training in leadership, backcountry medicine, communications, wilderness navigation, and technical skills. Once a member is proficient in these skills they will be expected to teach and lead new members. SAR is open to all interested parties. Lack of experience and/or physical fitness does not exclude one from becoming part of the team. It is a multifaceted endeavor with opportunities for all to participate, requiring only the participant’s commitment and enthusiasm.
SAR meetings take place in the Junior Common Room Wednesday from 5:30pm to 7pm. Trainings typically take place outdoors on Saturdays. Contact Brendan O’Neill at ext. 6148 for more information.
