The Campaign for St. John's College

Naming Opportunities

“With a Clear and Single Purpose:” The Campaign for St. John's College offers a variety of naming opportunities, including scholarships, internships, and faculty endowments. Opportunities for the naming of new buildings are also included.

Facilities

New dormitory complex (Santa Fe), $10 million

A new dormitory complex for 60 students will allow the college to reach its goal of housing 80% of undergraduates on campus and provide classroom space and faculty offices.

Auditorium

The Lecture Hall (500 fixed seats) will provide for larger audiences than the Great Hall in Peterson Student Center, and will allow for the student body and faculty to meet in one place. It will be located within the new Betty and Norman Levan Hall and also allow for the community to attend lectures of wide interest, as well as concerts and films.

Evans Science Laboratory (Santa Fe), $4.5 million

Renovation of and an addition to the existing Evans Science Laboratory will provide much-needed new laboratories.

Endowment Funds

Endowment Funds provide for annual support in perpetuity. Under the college's current spending policy, between 4.5% and 5.5% of the endowment is used every year to carry out designated activities. The minimum amount needed to establish an endowment fund at St. John's College is $10,000.

Tutorship, $2 million

Creating an endowed tutorship recognizes the important role tutors play as advisors and mentors to students, and as guardians of the program. The funds will be used to support increases in faculty salaries, one of the top priorities of the campaign.

The need-based financial aid program at St. John's is one of the few in the country that devotes every dollar to students who would not otherwise be able to attend the college. Endowments for financial aid are vital to the college's ability to grant enough aid so that every student who is qualified for admission will be able to attend regardless of their family's economic circumstances. Endowment funds support full and partial scholarships.

National Educators Fellowship, $1.6 million college-wide or $50,000 per teacher fellowship on each campus

The National Educators Fellowship program will provide a one-third tuition fellowship to teachers so that they can attend the Graduate Institute on either campus.

Library Acquisitions, $1 million (Santa Fe), $500,000 (Annapolis)

Named Book Funds, $25,000 on each campus

The Greenfield Library in Annapolis and Meem Library in Santa Fe need to continue to add to their collections, and they must restore and replace outdated, damaged, and missing volumes in their current collections.

Internships, $100,000 each

The college's program of summer internships provides funding for students to participate in internships that enable them to explore possible career paths and gain valuable work experience. An internship endowment will provide funding for one student internship each summer.
