Meeting College Costs

St. John's is committed to making our distinctive educational program available to students from families of all income levels. We admit students on the basis of academic promise and achievement and then work with families to make St. John's affordable. All our financial aid awards are based on need.

If college costs are a concern for you, we are ready and willing to help you and your family develop a plan for managing them. We invite you to call or visit at any time, especially if your family's financial situation is particularly difficult or complicated.

Over half our students receive substantial grant aid from the college in addition to loans, grants, and jobs on campus through federal and various state programs. Twenty-one percent of the college's annual operating budget goes to financial aid and thirty-six percent is for instructional and academic support. Aside from direct expenses for instruction, student aid is the single largest portion of the St. John's budget. While St. John's costs are high, they compare favorably with those of other selective private colleges and universities. And if you qualify for financial assistance, attending St. John's may not cost you any more than you would pay at a state-supported institution whose fees are lowere or at a less expensive private institution.
