Chancellor Johnson House (c. 1720)
A fine example of an early 18th century, gambrel roofed dwelling, the Chancellor Johnson House was moved to the campus in 1937 after being purchased by the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company. The company gave the dwelling to the city with the provision that it be moved from northwest street to make room for projected offices. The house is named for an alumnus of the Class of 1820 who never actually lived in it: John Johnson, last chancellor of the State of Maryland, a position abolished in 1851. Once a dormitory for a small group of students, the building now serves as the alumni office.
